______________________________________________________ The Nirvana Fan Club Newsletter - # 06 - July 15, 1998 ------------------------------------------------------ Introduction ============ Hello and welcome to another newsletter from NFC. The last newsletter was sent out just a couple of days ago but here is another one to fix a few errors in newsletter #05 as well as bring some important announcements. First of all, the URL I gave to the Nirvana Setlister was incorrect. The correct URL for 'TNS' is [ http://members.xoom.com/Setlister/ ] The URL I did give could be used, though, since it contained a banner to the right page. There should be a new version of the program released around July 17th and the author assured me that the new version would be far better than the current one! Since the last newsletter there haven't been a lot of Nirvana news and/or updates to my site but read on ... Site Updates ============ It turned out that my sponsor "Cyberthrill" were frauds so I have terminated the account with them. I have switched to a new, legitimate, sponsor which should be far better. This one also delivers advertising for quality companies. So again, please support my site by clicking on the sponsor banner which is located just below the banner for the Internet Link Exchange. By clicking the banner you will help to keep the site going, and I will be able to keep updating it with new files and expanding it in other ways. If you'd like to use my site after you have clicked on the banner - you can always use the 'back' button. Actually I don't think I've made any updates to the site besides switching sponsor - but it has only been a few days since the last newsletter was sent out, so that explains it. The information in the 'Old Age' section on my page suggests the following about Old Age - from the source: "We [Nirvana] worked on it for a while but basically grew tired of it. It's a good song but it's quite formulated and we figured we had enough formulated songs on the album. Kurt "swapped" it with Courtney for Come as You Are, which she had written and I guess felt the same about it as we did with Old Age. Kurt put his own lyrics to Courtney's song and vice versa. Kurt did write Old Age. They never gave each other credit because they were content with the public thinking each had wrote the other's song. Courtney has mentioned that Kurt had something to do with Old Age, though. I guess Kurt never spilled the beans about Come as you are." As stated on the page, before this quote appears - I do NOT know if this is true. I cannot prove that my source for this information really got it from Krist Novoselic and basically you could call it a rumour, I suppose. A few people on the Nirvana newsgroup had a problem with this info since they believed it wasn't true, and basically I'm not trying to say it is because I simply don't know. I put it online because it sounds somewhat sensible and a few people back the source up. I know I will laugh my ass off if this quote is proven to be true sometime :o) I just updated my bootleg list which had a few errors, and I fixed some setlists as well as adding info about the latest bootlegs I've received. [ http://www.nirvanaclub.com/bootleg.htm ] Also check out the new and updated page with my trading rules [ http://www.nirvanaclub.com/btrading.htm ] Please read this before you offer me a trade, or ask questions about bootlegs. Nirvana News ============ Many people ask me when the 'Kurt and Courtney' movie will come to their Country or State. I really don't know. All I know is that it opened in the US a while ago, first in San Francisco, and currently it should be playing in several theatres all over the US. I do not know when it will open in Europe or any other places of the world. Mark Lanegan is releasing a new album soon with the title "Scraps At Midnight". You are probably thinking what this has to do with anything, but as some know - Kurt Cobain worked with Mark Lanegan on his "Winding Sheet" album. In fact, Kurt provided background vocals on the Leadbelly cover "Where did you sleep last night" as well as on the song "Down in the Dark". This was recorded back in 1989. Oh, and Krist Novoselic plays bass on 'Where did you sleep ...' Speaking of covers - Sonic Youth's new single for the track "Sunday" contains a cover of the Nirvana song "Moist Vagina". Also known as 'MV'. Sonic Youth released their new album "The Silver Sessions" yesterday. I haven't listened to their version of MV yet but if someone has a recording of it, please let me know. Also let me know if you have an URL to a store online that carries this single. The domain 'cobain.net' should be on the way, and even more Nirvana related domains too. I'm still looking for someone who can do a review of the Italian movie 'Nirvana', described in the last newsletter. Misc Stuff ========== I was told that the little "Refresh" problem mentioned in the last newsletter, with Microsoft's Internet Explorer - is only present on some versions of the software. But still you should use the Refresh button if the page you are visiting looks outdated. Speaking of Microsoft - I've been using Win 98 for about 3 months now (yes I got it before it was released, last month) and I think it is pretty stabile and functions quite well. But this newsletter is certainly not about Microsoft .. let's go on. Another domain that was recently opened, is dedicated to The Foo Fighters. "The Foo Fighters Internet Archive" is an absolutely excellent Foo site and contains lots of material and is presented in a great design. The site is managed by Ed Dame who is the owner of the site "Up in Arms" and Brian Spekis who used to run the "Howling Wind" Foo site. Go visit it right now! [ http://www.foofighters.net/ ] - I wonder when there will be a Sweet 75 domain, as far as I know there is none yet but I'm sure it will come soon. Caner from Turkey has volunteered to translate these newsletters into Turkish. Then all the Nirvana fans in Turkey who don't understand English very well, will be able to read these newsletters too. Caner is currently working on Newsletter #01 which was sent out last month. More details about this will come soon. Maybe I will translate the newsletters to Danish sometime ... hmm. I think I'm too lazy for that. Here are some tour dates for The Foo Fighters, courtesy of Ed Dame and Brian Spekis from The Foo Fighters Internet Archive. 08/29/98 Reading, UK Reading Festival 08/30/98 Hasslet, Belgium Pukkelpop Festival Nirvana performed at the Reading festival in 1991, and 1992. Two shows that are among their finest and most popular. They also performed at the Pukkelpop Festival in 1991, a show which was recently found in an upgraded version and turned out to be a great, but short performance. Speaking of upgrades, I just received major upgrades of two In Utero recordings. First of all, 10/23/93 Chicago - the show that is famous for containing the only known Nirvana live recording of the brilliant song "On The Mountain" aka "You've got no right". The rest of the show is pretty nice, too. The other upgrade is 11/13/93 Washington, DC which features an odd version of the song "Donuts" after the destruction. The song has a Everett Vox on vocals and is also a pretty good show. I can't trade these two tapes quite yet and for now I'd prefer to trade them for rare/unsurfaced recordings only. More upgrades will come soon. Oh I almost forgot, I also got the Vienna, Austria show from 11/22/89. This copy includes the scream intro and 'School' which is cut from the CD copies. This show is outstanding because it has a very amusing audience, lead by a guy who keeps yelling - "Tune your fuc#ing guitar and sing about fuc#ing girls, man!" So they play 'About a Girl' :o) - As with the two other new tapes, I'll hold off the trading for these another little bit .... That's about all for this time. Currently there are just about 3000 subscribers to this newsletter. I am thinking of giving something, or doing something special when I reach subscriber # 10.000 - we'll see ... The next newsletter SHOULD be out sometime in August .... toodles!
